Who is Anas Sarwar?
Anas Sarwar is a prominent Scottish politician who has made significant strides in the realm of politics in the United Kingdom.
Serving as the Leader of the Scottish Labour Party since 2021, his political journey is marked by notable achievements and contributions.
Sarwar has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) representing the Glasgow region since 2016, following his earlier role as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow Central from 2010 to 2015.

He succeeded his father, Mohammad Sarwar, in the Glasgow Central seat after being elected in the 2010 general election.

During his tenure in the House of Commons, Sarwar served as Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party from 2011 to 2014, where he played an active role in shaping the party’s direction.
Following a brief hiatus from Westminster after losing his seat to the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the 2015 general election, Sarwar made a triumphant return to politics by being elected as an MSP in the 2016 Scottish Parliament election, representing the Glasgow region.
His leadership journey within the Scottish Labour Party took a significant turn in 2021 when he was elected as the Leader of the Scottish Labour Party.
Sarwar’s leadership was instrumental in leading Scottish Labour into the 2021 Scottish Parliament election.
While the election results placed the party in opposition with two fewer Labour MSPs than in the previous election, his influence in the political landscape remained prominent.
