Cal Wilson, the beloved New Zealand stand-up comedian, TV host, and author, passed away on October 11, 2023, at the age of 53.

In 2001, she clinched the “Best Newcomer” award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, setting the stage for a brilliant career. Her talent shone at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2004, earning critical acclaim.

Wilson’s comedic journey included co-founding the Court Jesters improv group in 1990 and being part of the New Zealand team that won the World Theatresports title in Los Angeles in 1994. Her 2006 show, “Up There, Cal Wilson,” was a smashing success at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Beyond stand-up, Wilson graced Australian screens with her presence, featuring in shows like SkitHOUSE, Rove Live, and Thank God You’re Here.
In 2022, she ventured into the wild on the Australian version of “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” and hosted “The Great Australian Bake Off” in 2022 alongside Natalie Tran.
Wilson’s versatility extended beyond comedy. She authored two children’s books in 2019 and, during the 2020 Covid lockdowns, unveiled her talent for crafting extravagant headdresses.
