On February 21, 2022, Jake Muzzin’s 33rd birthday took a tragic turn when he collided with Chris Wideman of the Montreal Canadiens, resulting in his second concussion in a span of a month.

The following season, Muzzin’s journey to recovery took another unexpected turn. After appearing in only four games, he suffered a spinal injury during. On February 22, 2023, it was announced that he would be ruled out for the rest of the season.

As the 2023-24 NHL season approached, the Maple Leafs’ new general manager, Brad Treliving, confirmed that Jake Muzzin would remain on injured reserve for the entire season due to his spinal injury from the prior year.

While the prospects of Jake Muzzin returning as a player remain uncertain, he has not faded into obscurity. In early October2023, it was revealed that Muzzin had joined the Maple Leafs’ front office as a professional scout.
