Shreyas Iyer, the talented Indian middle-order batsman and captain of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, has risen to prominence in the world of cricket. Born on December 6, 1994, in Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer’s cricketing journey began under the watchful eye of former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre. Amre spotted the budding talent when Shreyas was just 12 years old, honing his skills at the iconic Shivaji Park Gymkhana.

Shreyas Iyer’s father, Santosh Iyer, is a businessman who also shares a profound passion for cricket. His own cricketing journey extended until the college level before he decided not to pursue it further. However, Santosh Iyer’s interest in the sport didn’t wane; instead, he saw the potential in his son and envisioned a cricketing future for him.

In a documentary titled ‘A Father’s Dream,’ Santosh Iyer candidly shared his journey as a cricketer during his college days. While he recognized that perhaps his dedication to the game was not as focused as Shreyas’, he was determined to pass on his love for cricket to his son. He observed Shreyas’ cricketing talent from a very young age, as early as four years old, and decided to nurture it.

Recognizing the immense potential in Shreyas, Santosh Iyer took a significant step by enrolling his son in one of Mumbai’s finest cricket academies. Acting on Pravin Amre’s advice, he even facilitated Shreyas’ transition to Don Bosco school to immerse him in competitive cricket, providing him with more opportunities to grow and learn.

However, during Shreyas’ under-16 cricketing days, he encountered a period of poor form. Concerned that his son might be distracted by other interests, Santosh Iyer took Shreyas to a psychologist. To his relief, the psychologist confirmed that there was nothing amiss, and it was a phase that every player goes through.

Shreyas Iyer’s mother, Rohini Iyer, has played an equally pivotal role in his cricketing journey. She believed in her son’s potential from a young age and always envisioned him becoming a successful cricketer. Rohini gifted Shreyas his first cricket bat, fostering his love for the sport. Despite occasional playful taunts from Shreyas during meal preparations, Rohini’s unwavering faith in her son’s cricketing prowess remained steadfast.

Shreyas Iyer is not an only child; he has a younger sister named Shresta Iyer. The bond between the siblings is evident through the photos and videos they share on social media platforms.

Shresta Iyer is a professional choreographer and dancer. She is also the founder of “We Are Pawerful,” an initiative dedicated to animal welfare.

Born into a diverse family, Shreyas Iyer represents a fusion of cultures. His father, Santosh Iyer, hails from a Tamilian Keralite background, while his mother, Rohini Iyer, is of Mangalorean Tuluva descent. Shreyas’ ancestors originate from Thrissur, Kerala, adding depth to his rich cultural heritage.
