The long-running Prince Valiant comic strip was adapted into a movie by him in 1997, starring Stephen Moyer as the title character. His use of a dual-focus approach, in which one person’s face occupies the majority of the screen in profile while another is shown on the other half of the screen in the background, is a common feature of his visual style. Hickox had a reputation as a rebellious director who frequently clashed with his producers.
