But every great story begins with humble beginnings, and Chuck Feeney’s story is no exception.

He was born to modest blue-collar Irish-American parents Leo Feeney and  Madaline Feeney in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Feeney’s mother pursued a career as a hospital nurse, a profession that demanded compassion, dedication, and a commitment to caring for others.

His father was an insurance underwriter who navigated the world of financial risk and security. His profession underscored the importance of providing for one’s family and safeguarding their future.

Chuck Feeney’s ancestry can be traced back to County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, a heritage that undoubtedly shaped his identity and values.

He attended St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth. Chuck Feeney served as a U.S. Air Force radio operator during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country.

After his military service, he pursued higher education and graduated from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in 1956.

His academic journey laid the groundwork for his future success as a businessman and philanthropist. Feeney died in San Francisco on October 9, 2023, at the age of 92.
