Nicholas Fairley, a former defensive tackle in American football, was born on January 23, 1988. He participated in collegiate football for Auburn University, where he won a BCS National Championship and was named an All-American. The Detroit Lions selected Fairley in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has also participated in games for the New Orleans Saints and the St. Louis Rams.

Fairley made the decision to forego his final year of eligibility just four days after the 2011 BCS National Championship Game and join the 2011 NFL Draft instead. He was originally anticipated to be selected first overall in the draft. He was predicted to go in the 8–12 area following the NFL Combine. The Detroit Lions selected Fairley with the 13th overall choice in the first round of the NFL Draft.
