Her sudden departure in Palm Desert was reported by her daughter, Sarah, with the cause of death yet to be confirmed.
Tim Kressman, her representative from Gersh, paid tribute, saying, “Shawna stood out as one of Hollywood’s premier science fiction costume designers. She was not just a reservoir of creativity but also a cherished collaborator and friend to many in the industry. Her contributions will be deeply missed by the Star Wars/Lucasfilm community and the broader circle of costume designers in the Costume Designers Guild.”

Born in Artesia, California on October 18, 1966, Shawna’s career aspirations took a different turn in her youth. While she once considered truck driving, an influential art teacher steered her towards the arts. Pursuing her newfound passion, she attended the Otis College of Art and Design, specializing in fashion, and had the privilege of working with Bob Mackie’s team in her final year.
Trpcic’s first acknowledgment as a costume designer came in 1990. Her affiliation with Lucasfilm started in earnest in 2019, notably with the second season of “The Mandalorian.” Her craftsmanship is also evident in “The Book of Boba Fett” and the recent “Ahsoka.”
Apart from the Star Wars series, Trpcic’s diverse portfolio spans projects like “The Ballad of John St. George,” “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein,” “Carry Tiger To Mountain,” “Revival,” “Witches of East End,” “The Cabin in the Woods,” “This Is the End,” “Firefly,” “Angel,” “K-Ville,” “Torchwood,” “Husbands,” “Lust for Love,” and “Dollhouse.”
