Loren is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Darlene, his loving children, David, Karen, and Judy, and his treasured grandchildren, Madi, Kenna, and Liam.

Loren Cunningham was a missionary and the founder of Youth With a Mission (YWAM).
In 1956, while touring the Bahamas as part of a gospel quartet, Loren underwent a transformative experience. He vividly described a vision where waves on a world map’s shorelines swelled, ultimately blanketing entire continents.

These waves metamorphosed into fervent young individuals, zealously spreading their faith across the globe. This vision became the foundation for the establishment of Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in 1960, a movement providing missionary opportunities for Christian youth post-high school, regardless of their denomination.
At the tender age of 24, Loren, alongside his wife Darlene, laid the cornerstone of YWAM in Lausanne, Switzerland. Their unwavering commitment saw them become stalwart figures in YWAM leadership, bearing titles as Founders of the Mission and trusted advisers to YWAM International’s leadership.
In 1978, Loren Cunningham co-founded the University of the Nations in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, alongside Howard Malmstadt, further cementing his legacy as a visionary missionary leader.
Cunningham’s visionary leadership touched countless lives, leaving an indelible imprint on global missions.
