Hampton Smith wife: Was Hampton Smith married?

Hampton Smith, a former head football coach at Albany State University and one of the all-time great SIAC and HBCU coaches, has achieved greatness. During Smith’s stay at ASU, which included two stints as head football coach, Albany State won nine SIAC championships.

From 1971 to 1976, he served as the program’s head coach before stepping down and eventually coming back in 1982. Smith would come back and lead ASU to three straight SIAC championships from 1984 to 1986 and five straight from 1993 to 1997, with a share of the championship in 1988. In 1997, his final championship team at ASU went 11-1, including his career’s lone postseason victory.

Following his initial employment with Albany State, he spent 1977–1978 as an assistant coach for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. In 1979, he joined the Mississippi Valley State coaching staff, and from 1980–1981 he worked as an assistant coach for the Rams once more.
