Robert Fico Parents: Meet Ľudovít Fico and Emília Ficová

The prime minister of Slovakia from 2006 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2018 (when he resigned) was Robert Fico (born on September 15, 1964), a politician from Slovakia. Since 1999, he has served as the party’s first leader, heading the Direction-Social Democracy (Smer) faction.

In 1992, while still a part of Czechoslovakia, he was first elected to the parliament. He was subsequently appointed to the Council of Europe. After his party won the 2006 legislative election, he created the first Fico Cabinet.

Deputy Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini was formally given the task of forming a new government by President Andrej Kiska after Fico submitted his resignation on March 15, 2018, in the wake of the political crisis that followed the death of Ján Kuciak.

On September 15, 1964, in the town of Topoľčany in the western Nitra Region, Fico was born. His mother, Emilie Ficová, worked at a shoe business, and his father, Ľudovit Fico, operated forklifts. Fico has stated that he wanted to be a politician, a sports reporter, or an archeologist when he was younger.
