The Ain Ghazal figures, which are among the oldest large-scale statues ever discovered, are housed at the site.
The settlement of Ain Ghazal (‘Spring of the Gazelle’) is separated into two phases dating from the Middle Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (MPPNB). The first phase begins at 10,300 BP and ends around 9,950 BP, while the second phase ends around 9,550 BP.
It is situated in a reasonably rich environmental setting, right adjacent to Jordan’s longest drainage system, the Zarqa River (Wadi Zarqa).
