Butch Harmon is an American golf instructor and former professional player.

He is the son of Claude Harmon and Alice Cullen McKee Harmon. Butch Harmon was raised by his parents in New Rochelle, New York.
His father was the head pro at Mamaroneck’s Winged Foot Golf Club. Butch’s father worked as the winter professional at the Seminole Golf Club, thus the family spent part of the year in Florida.
Butch, like his three younger brothers, Craig, Bill, and Dick, began playing golf at a young age. Butch graduated from Iona Grammar School in 1958 and spent a year at Iona Prep before transferring to and graduating from New Rochelle High School in 1962.

Butch Harmon’s father Claude Harmon was a club professional when he won the 1948 Masters Tournament by five shots.
In 1959, he was recruited as the head professional at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, where he stayed for over a decade before taking a club post in Texas in the Houston region.
Claude Harmon died of heart failure following surgery in Houston at 73. He is in the World Golf Teachers’ Hall of Fame as well as the PGA of America Hall of Fame.
