When the Québec Nordiques selected Garth Snow in the sixth round of the 1987 NHL Draft, he attended the University of Maine to play collegiate hockey. With the Nordiques, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York Islanders, Snow appeared in over 365 NHL games as a goalie.

He also participated in SKA St. Petersburg’s 2004–2005 season in Russia. At the 1998 World Championships and the 1994 Winter Olympics, Snow represented the United States.

Soon after Snow announced his retirement in 2006, he was appointed general manager of the New York Islanders. Later on, he was appointed the company’s president. He worked as the Islanders’ executive for more than ten years before being voted NHL Executive of the Year in 2007.
