American professional basketball player Rudy Gay, who plays for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, was born on August 17, 1986. The 6’8″ forward played basketball for the University of Connecticut in college before the Houston Rockets selected him eighth overall in the 2006 NBA Draft; he was subsequently traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets took Gay with the eighth overall choice in the 2006 NBA Draft. On July 12, they traded Gay, along with Stromile Swift, to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Shane Battier. When Gay was acquired by the organization, he promptly signed his rookie-scale contract with the Grizzlies. In 78 games (43 starts), Gay averaged 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 27.0 minutes.
