Burkey Belser was an American graphic designer who lived from July 8, 1947, to September 25, 2023. He is most recognized for creating the United States’ Nutrition Facts label.

All packaged foods in the United States must bear the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-mandated food labeling system, which has been dubbed “the most frequently reproduced graphic in the world.”

He is particularly well-known for his innovative work in the field of legal advertising, for which he received the Legal Marketing Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into its Hall of Fame.
Belser served as one of nine judges for the Communication Arts Design Annual 2007, widely considered as the country’s most esteemed contest for graphic design.

Burkey Belser has a sister and a half-brother, but sadly, little information is known about them. Working with FDA representatives, Mr. Belser eventually chose “simplicity in itself,” as he later expressed it.
