Alex Highsmith is an American football outside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL).

Alex Highsmith went to Eugene Ashley High School and participated in baseball, basketball, and football. As a senior, he was chosen second-team All-Area and first-team All-Mideastern Conference.

Alex Highsmith was a walk-on for the Charlotte 49ers and redshirted his freshman year. As a redshirt freshman, he appeared in all 12 games for the 49ers and finished with 17 tackles and a sack.

During his redshirt sophomore season, Highsmith was a major element of Charlotte’s defensive line rotation, finishing with 33 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
As a redshirt junior, he started at defensive end and was awarded first-team All-Conference USA after setting a school record with 17.5 tackles for loss, 60 total stops, three sacks, and two forced fumbles.
As a senior, he was selected first-team All-Conference USA and third-team All-America by the Associated Press after breaking new school records with 14 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Highsmith in the third round, 102nd overall, of the 2020 NFL draft.
