Pavel “Pasha” Kovalev is a Russian professional Latin and ballroom dancer. Kovalev began dancing at the age of eight and relocated to the United States in 2001 with his professional dance partner Anya Garnis.

After coming to the United States, Kovalev and Garnis turned professional and began competing in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada in 2002.

In September 2011, Kovalev joined the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing as the new professional dancer for the ninth series, replacing Jared Murillo, who had departed the show after only one season.

It was confirmed that Pasha Kovalev would be leaving Strictly Come Dancing after eight years. And apparently, Pasha’s wife, Rachel Riley, is the main reason he decided to leave the show.
It has been reported that Rachel said her husband was underpaid for his work.
