He began playing for Bay of Plenty in 2021, during the Bunnings NPC, and was selected for the New Zealand Barbarians at the end of the season. So far, he has played in 8 games, and scored 5 points for Bay of Plenty.
In 2023, Paea got signed with the New England Free Jacks, for the 2023 Major League Rugby season, and has so far made 13 appearances and scored 5 points for the club.
On the international front, Paea first played for Tonga in 2021 against the Cook Islands.
