In his announcement, he highlighted his inability to execute duties in the House as a barrier to becoming Leader of the Opposition, pending a judgement in the Constitutional Court on his suspension status as an MP.

Pita emphasised the importance of the role of Leader of the Opposition in his announcement, saying it must give “checks and balance” to the administration.

He stated that regardless of his role, he will continue engaged in Thai politics and the party. Pita stated that Move Forward would choose a new leader to succeed him on September 23rd, who would lead the party as well as the opposition in the House of Representatives.
