The names of her parents are not public knowledge. Angelica Ross was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and raised in adjacent Racine, Wisconsin.
Ross is a trans woman. She had a strained relationship with her mother due to her being trans.
When she was 17, she told her mother, an evangelical Christian, that she was gay. Her mother did not receive the news well; according to Ross, “she told me I should commit suicide or she would, because she couldn’t have someone like me as her child.”
Ross considered suicide and overdosed on medication, but she survived. Ross began her gender change when she was 19 years old.

Her mother kicked her out after learning she was transitioning, and Ross went in with her biological father who was more tolerant of her in Roanoke, Virginia.
Although Ross and her parents were alienated for a period, she claims that they have recently reconciled.
Ross’ mother revealed her turning point was seeing an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show in which a mother who had recently lost her LGBTQ+ son had a moment of revelation after going to a Pride event.
“I gotta do something,” she thought to herself, “because that could be my kid.”
