Is Gaabi Boucha related to Henry Boucha?

Henry Boucha was a Native American professional ice hockey center who played from June 1, 1951, to September 18, 2023. Between 1971 to 1977, Boucha participated in both the World Hockey Association (WHA) and the National Hockey League (NHL).

He played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA as well as the Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota North Stars, Kansas City Scouts, and Colorado Rockies in the NHL. Because of an eye injury caused by Dave Forbes, his career was ended.

Internationally, Boucha participated in two World Championships and the 1972 Winter Olympics for the American national team, where he won a silver medal. Gary Sargent, a distant cousin of Boucha’s, is a full-blooded Chippewa Ojibwa, as is T. J. Oshie, his second cousin.

Gaabi Boucha is the grandson of Henry Boucha. Henry Boucha, a former NHL player, is another new member of the US Hockey Hall of Fame. His Ojibwe ancestry is Native American. Gaabi Boucha was a multi-sport athlete who participated in hockey and football in high school. He plays football while a student at Aberdeen, South Dakota’s Northern State University.
