Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, started wearing his iconic mouse headgear, known as the “Mau5head”, in “2008”. In a humorous Instagram post, he shared an x-ray image of his spine and captioned it, “Wear a mouse head’ they said. ‘It’ll be fun!”.

Deadmau5 revealed that he’s making roughly $400,000 to $1,000,000 USD per show. In 2007, Deadmau5 founded his own record label, Mau5trap.

Deadmau5’s breakthrough, Random Album Title, was released in 2008 and was certified gold in Canada, and silver in the United Kingdom.

Deadmau5 composed the score for the 2019 action film Polar and released the singles “Satrn”, “Coasted”, and “Fall” the same year.
Zimmerman is a playable avatar in DJ Hero 2, a video game released in October 2010. He is also featured as a secret unlockable character in the 2014 video game Goat Simulator as “deadgoa7”.
Deadmau5 became the only Canadian to have three number-one tracks on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. He is also the sixth Canadian to top that chart.
