Tranquill was born on August 15, 1995, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S., and played high school football at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
In high school, he played as a running back and linebacker, and was a four-star recruit.

In his senior year, Tranquill recorded 75 tackles as a linebacker, and “1,420 yards and 28 touchdowns on 114 carries on the ground as a running back.”
Tranquill went on to play college football at Notre Dame, and as a freshman, he appeared in 11 games with three starts and recorded 33 tackles.” His time at Notre Dame saw him win the Wuerffel Trophy.
In 2019, Tranquill was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers as 130th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. In the same year, he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
In 2023, Tranquill joined the Kansas City Chiefs.
