It has been verified that Colombian artist Fernando Botero passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. At the age of 91, the gifted artist passed away.

The artist, who resided in Monaco, had pneumonia, according to Lina, his daughter, on Friday. With his Abu Ghraib series in 2005, Botero attracted notice on a global scale.

Over 85 paintings and 100 drawings made up this potent collection, which was part of his commitment to “painting out the poison.” Botero made the decision to donate these pieces to museums rather than sell them. 56 pieces from this series of paintings and sketches were donated to the Berkeley Art Museum in 2009.
