About the Notting Hillbillies

The Notting Hillbillies first performed at a small club in Leeds, as far back as the 1980s, and later embarked on music tours.

Mark Knopfler, who was the frontman, was known for his distinctive guitar work and soulful vocals which gave the band a signature sound.

The Notting Hillbillies’ music embodied a melodic blend of folk, country, and rock, characterized by storytelling lyrics.

The group comprised of legendary musicians Mark Knopfler, Steve Phillips, Brendan Croker, and Guy Fletcher, all of whom mostly contributed playing the guitar and keyboard aside from vocals.

Other members were “Paul Franklin (pedal steel), Marcus Cliffe (bass), and Ed Bicknell (drums).”

Their only studio album, “Missing…Presumed Having a Good Time,” released in 1990, featured standout tracks like Your Own Sweet Way and Railroad Worksong.

Although, the band didn’t achieve much success but it was known for crafting authentic and heartfelt music that resonate with many fans.
