Casey started his rugby career at Ardscoil Rs, where he led the school squad to the 2017 Munster Schools Rugby Senior Cup semifinals. His outstanding efforts won him a spot in the top XV of the Munster Schools for 2017.

At the under-18 level, he also competed for Munster and Ireland. Mossy Lawler, a former footballer for Shannon and Munster, is the uncle of Casey. Casey joined the Munster academy in 2017, and in April 2019 he took home the John McCarthy Award for Academy Player of the Year.
