Belgian cyclist Nathan van Hooydonck was involved in a car accident while driving on Tuesday, September 12 2023.

His team Jumbo-Visma released a statement about the accident saying: “We can confirm that earlier today our rider Nathan van Hooydonck became unwell while driving his car, leading to his involvement in a traffic accident.
“He was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he is receiving good medical care. “We cannot confirm rumours that his condition is critical. He is undergoing further medical examinations.
“Thank you all for your messages to Nathan and the team.”

Hours after he was hospitalized, his Jumbo-Visma team provided a later update that he was not seriously injured and “his health situation is not critical”.
The team released a statement following Stage 16 of La Vuelta a Espana. The statement on social media read: “Nathan Van Hooydonck is awake and doesn’t suffer injuries because of the traffic accident earlier today. His health situation is not critical.
Van Hooydonck joined Jumbo-Visma in 2021 and has been an important member of their team since then. He aided Jonas Vingegaard’s Tour de France victories and Wout van Aert’s Tour of Britain victory last week.
