Tina Douglas, her mother, is African-American and a former dance teacher, and Ken-Kaide Thomas Douglas, her father, is also African-American and a former singer.

She is the eldest child of her parents, and she has a younger sister named Kenashia “Shia” Douglas. James, her grandfather, was a civil rights leader who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s.

Ashanti’s mother realised her true singing talent when she overheard her daughter singing Mary J. Blige’s “Reminisce” when she was 12 years old.

Ashanti rose to fame in the early 2000s as a prominent figure in the R&B and hip-hop music scene. She began her career as a background vocalist and songwriter, working with artists like Jennifer Lopez and Big Pun.

However, she gained widespread recognition when she signed with Murder Inc. Records. Her debut self-titled album, “Ashanti,” released in 2002, was a massive success and established her as a solo artist.

Aside from her music career, Ashanti has ventured into acting, appearing in films and TV series. She has also continued to release new music and collaborate with other artists, making her a respected and influential figure in the entertainment industry.
