On November 11, 1996, Dennis Duane “D. J.” Reed Jr., a cornerback with the New York Jets of the National Football League, was born.
Independence High School in Bakersfield, California, was Reed’s high school. During his high school football career, he amassed 1,150 total offense yards, 13 touchdowns, six interceptions, five forced fumbles, and a total of five forced fumbles.

He was the only athlete in school history to play both basketball and football and be voted MVP in both. Reed made the decision to play football for the Fresno State Bulldogs. The San Francisco 49ers selected Reed in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft (142nd overall). Reed made it to Super Bowl LIV in his second season, but the 49ers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 31–20.
