Beard was born on January 7, 1996, in Swansea, Wales, and played rugby at Neath Port Talbot College.
He also played in the youth academy Aberavon RFC and Birchgrove RFC.
In 2013, he began playing for Ospreys, and went ahead to appear in 66 games.
In 2014, he made his senior debut with Aberavon RFC.
In 2021, Beard was named to the British & Irish Lions squad for the South Africa tour. He went on to make his Lions debut in the Provincial game against the Sharks, and his Lions test debut against the Springboks.
