A professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Nickeil Alexander-Walker was born in Canada on September 2, 1998. He was a Virginia Tech Hokies basketball player in college. He was selected by the Brooklyn Nets as the 17th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft as a shooting guard and point guard, but was later traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Brooklyn Nets picked Alexander-Walker with the 17th overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft on June 20, 2019. His draft rights were first transferred to the Atlanta Hawks on July 6, 2019, and then right away to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans announced that they had signed Alexander-Walker the following day.
