Sarah Lancashire Parents: Meet Geoffrey Lancashire and Hilda Lancashire

Sarah Lancashire is an English actress. She is the daughter of Geoffrey Lancashire and Hilda Lancashire.

Her father Geoffrey Lancashire was a scriptwriter while her mother Hilda served as PA to her father. Before moving to scriptwriting, her father Geoffrey Lancashire worked as a journalist for the Oldham Evening Chronicle.

After joining Granada Television as a continuity scriptwriter in 1956, he went on to write over 170 episodes of Coronation Street, a show that would eventually launch his daughter Sarah’s career.

But it wasn’t just Corrie that Geoffrey worked on; he also wrote scripts for programmes like The Cuckoo Waltz, Foxy Lady, and All Creatures Great and Small.  Sarah’s father died in 2004 at the age of 71 after suffering a series of strokes later in life.

Sarah Lancashire is known to many for her role in Coronation Street as Raquel Wolstenhulme, joining the cast in 1991. She has won two BAFTAs for her roles in Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax, in which she played an Oxford-educated headmistress in a same-sex relationship.

Her other honours include an OBE, which she received in the 2017 British Honours list for her contributions to drama.
