Gary Hargreaves is the first husband of English actress Sarah Lancashire.

Sarah Lancashire married Gary Hargreaves her first serious boyfriend a music lecturer 11 years her senior, when she was 22 years old.

Thomas, her first kid with Hargreaves, was born in 1987, and Matthew, her second son, was born in 1989. She told The Telegraph in 2001: “I got married only because I was pregnant. Simple as that.

Meanwhile, Gary later revealed that her comments regarding his marriage had upset him. When she called to tell him she was engaged to Peter, he playfully asked if she was pregnant.

The Mirror reported he said: “I just couldn’t believe she felt that. I didn’t take it in at first, but then I was fuming. When she used those words, I was speechless. I didn’t say anything, as I knew it would just have ended up in a row.”
