The 1976 hit songs “Dream Weaver” and “Love Is Alive” were composed by Gary Malcolm Wright (April 26, 1943 – September 4, 2023) and are probably most remembered for them. Following seven years in London where he alternately performed as a solo artist on A&M Records and as a member of the British blues rock band Spooky Tooth, Wright released his breakthrough album The Dream Weaver in 1975.

He began a friendship with George Harrison, a former Beatle, while in England by playing keyboards on his triple album All Things Must Pass (1970). This friendship served as the source of Wright’s later songs’ Indian religious themes and spirituality. However, none of his post-1976 works were as well-received as The Dream Weaver. His work from the late 1980s onward embraced world music and the new age genre.
