David Watkins, a Welsh dual-code rugby international, played football for both the rugby union and rugby league national sides between 1963 and 1974. He passed away on September 3, 2023 (5 March 1942).

In addition to making six appearances for the Great Britain rugby league squad, he served as captain of the British and Irish Lions rugby union team.

He participated in every World Cup match with the Wales national rugby league side, and during the course of 12 seasons with English club Salford, he played more than 400 games.

He joined Newport RFC in 1961, and on September 2 of that same year, he made his Newport debut against Penarth RFC. The team won the Welsh Championship during his first year with Newport.
