Annie Leibovitz is an American portrait photographer. She is the daughter of Marilyn Leibovitz and Sam Leibovitz.

Her father was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force with Romanian-Jewish ancestry, and her mother was a modern dance instructor with Estonian-Jewish ancestry.
Because of her father’s military deployments, the family moved frequently, and she took her first photographs while he was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. Her mother’s involvement in dancing, music, and painting sparked Leibovitz’s interest in art.

Annie Leibovitz best recognised for her engaging pictures, notably of celebrities, in intimate settings and positions. One of Rolling Stone magazine’s most iconic cover images is Annie Leibovitz’s Polaroid photograph of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, taken five hours before Lennon’s assassination.
She was named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress, and she was the first woman to have a feature show at Washington’s National Portrait Gallery. In 2023, Leibovitz was commissioned by IKEA to “create a series of 25 portraits that illuminate the nuances of ‘life at home
