Steve Harwell is an American singer. He is the son of Gary Sr. and Linda Harwell.

Additional information about his parents are unavailable. Harwell is well known as the founder and lead singer of Smash Mouth. He and bassist Paul De Lisle have been with the band from their inception.
Aside from his involvement with the band, Harwell gained notoriety after being cast in the sixth season of VH1’s reality show The Surreal Life.

Harwell was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and Wernicke encephalopathy in 2013, both of which can impair motor functions such as speech and memory, as well as heart failure.
He announced his retirement from public performance in October 2021. Harwell claimed that he retired because his ability to function well was hampered by health issues.
Harwell’s representative reported in September 2023 that he was in hospice care with end-stage liver failure and only had days to live.
