Former wide receiver for the New York Giants Plaxico Burress had accidentally shot himself sometime in 2008, on his right thigh, during a moment at the nightclub LQ in New York City.

He had tried to reach down for a Glock pistol in his pocket, but accidentally pulled the trigger.

Burress was charged for unlawful possession of fire arms and ended up serving 20 months in prison.

At the time, Burress played with the Giants, who eventually released him to face his gun charges.

The American-born player recorded a successful collegiate career at Michigan State.

Burress ended up playing in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons.

In 2000, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers as eighth overall in the first round of the NFL Draft.

He had played with the Steelers for five seasons, where he appeared in 71 games, and recording 261 receptions for 4,164 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six fumbles.

Burress additionally played for the New York Jets, and later made a comeback to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012 until retirement.
