Captain William Pinkney, better known by his alias “Captain Bill,” a native of Chicago, passed away on Thursday night. His family and friends are in grief.

Pinkney passed suddenly on Thursday morning from injuries he sustained days earlier when he fell down a flight of stairs. In a 22-month voyage from 1990 to 1992, he sailed solo around the globe.
He was in Atlanta, his ex-wife told ABC7, working on a National Geographic project. She claims that he will be sorely missed. 87 years old was Pinkney.
Captain Pinkney assumed the crucial position of the first Captain of the replica schooner AMISTAD while serving as a trustee from 1994 to 2008, a period of crucial development.
