Under manager Jean Tigana, Fulham won the First Division (now Football League Championship) in 2001, winning 101 points and scoring 90 goals in the 2000/2001 season. Al-Fayed had reached his Premier League goal a year ahead of schedule.

Fulham was participating in European football by 2002, having won the Intertoto Cup and challenging for the UEFA Cup. Fulham reached the final of the 2009-10 UEFA Europa League and remained in the Premier League during Al-Fayed’s ownership, which concluded in 2013.
Under Al-Fayed Fulham F.C. was owned by Mafco Holdings, based in the tax haven of Bermuda and in turn owned by Al-Fayed and his family. Al-Fayed had financed Fulham F.C. £187 million in interest-free loans by 2011.
In July 2013, it was announced that Al-Fayed had sold the club to Pakistani-American businessman Shahid Khan, who owns the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.
Mohamed Al-Fayed died on August 30, 2023, at the age of 94.
