Andrew Haigh is a British filmmaker. They names of his parents are not public knowledge.

However, both his parents are from Yorkshire. His father worked as a salesman for a drinks company and his mother was a housewife although she now has her own company.

When they separated, he went to boarding school. He studied history at Newcastle. Before making his directorial debut with the short film Oil, Haigh worked as an assistant editor on films including Gladiator and Black Hawk Down.

Greek Pete, his first feature-length film, premiered at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in 2009. Weekend, Haigh’s second film, about a 48-hour relationship between two men, premiered on March 11, 2011 at the SXSW Film Festival, where it earned the Audience Award for Emerging Visions.

45 Years, Haigh’s next film, screened as part of the main competition at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. Charlotte Rampling was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

In October 2016, Haigh was confirmed as the writer-director of The North Water, a mini-series based on Ian McGuire’s novel of the same name. Filming began in the summer of 2018. In 2021, it aired on BBC Two from July 15 to August 12.
