Family and friends of Arthur Leong are in mourning after he passed away. In the years since his birth, Leong has developed to become a successful association football player.

On the international stage, he was recognized for having represented New Zealand. Leong eventually immigrated to New Zealand at the age of two despite being born in Guangzhou, China.
Later, he represented New Zealand in football as the nation’s first player of Chinese descent.

On June 6, 1959, he participated in New Zealand’s 3-2 victory over Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica), which was the country’s lone international match that year, becoming the nation’s first player of Chinese ancestry.
In addition to serving on the executive committee of the Waikato Football Association, Arthur was the coach, club president, and captain of Technical Old Boys.

At a special ceremony attended by their extended family in December 2013, Arthur and his wife Maureen, a retired midwife, were each given Community Awards by the Hamilton City Council for their community work.
