Gil Brandt obituary

For the Cowboys from 1960 until 1988, Brandt held the position of vice president of player personnel. Brandt first gained experience in scouting while working part-time for the Los Angeles Rams after graduating from the University of Wisconsin. When the San Francisco 49ers folded in 1960, Brandt moved to Dallas to take a job as the team’s lead talent scout with the Cowboys, where he worked until 1958 when he was given his first full-time opportunity.

Brandt, who was born in Milwaukee on March 4, 1933, attended the University of Wisconsin and worked as a baby photographer before making his NFL debut as a part-time scout with the Los Angeles Rams in the 1950s, when Schramm was the team’s general manager.
