He is best known for his appearances as Fox Mulder on “The X-Files” and Hank Moody on “Californication.”

David was paid $150,000 each episode for the first three seasons of The X-Files. In a 24-episode season, that works up to $3.6 million each year.

After correcting for inflation, that works out to roughly $7 million per year in today’s dollars. By the fourth season, both David and his co-star Gillian Anderson were earning $240,000 per episode.

This works out to $5.76 million for a 24-episode season. After adjusting for inflation, that equates to $10 million in today’s money. David and Gillian received $4 million each for their roles in the first X-Files film.

For the second movie, they each got an estimated $6 million. David got paid $225,000 every episode of “Californication” while starring in it. David made $2.7 million before taxes for each season of Californication, which had 12 episodes.

David paid $6.25 million for a three-bedroom property at The Ardsley in New York City in 2012. The apartment features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a private elevator, a fireplace, high ceilings, a magnificent terrace, and incredible views of the park across the street.
