Don Browne, a former executive at Telemundo and NBC News, died this morning after a battle with a brain tumor.
He was eighty-years-old.

After six years as Telemundo’s president and before that as the network’s COO, Browne left NBCUniversal in June 2011 to pursue other interests.

He had worked for NBCU for more than 30 years, beginning as the director of the Miami office for NBC News in 1979 after spending more than a decade at CBS News.

Browne was appointed executive news director in 1989, where he oversaw NBC’s Today program, and he was made executive vice president of NBC News in 1991. He directed the development of Dateline while he was employed at NBC News.

Don Browne’s estimated net worth at death ranged from $1 million to $5 million. When Browne was admitted to the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame in 2008, his accomplishments were recognized. When he was given the Florida Governor’s Points of Light Award in 2006, he was also honored. He received the Ida B. Wells Award in 2004 in recognition of his commitment to fostering workplace diversity.
