Desmond King II is a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is the son of Yvette Powell and Desmond King.

He was raised by his mother Yvette Powell. King’s father, also named Desmond, left the family when King was a child.
In Detroit, Michigan, King attended East English Village Preparatory Academy. He was a defensive back and a running back for the Bulldogs. He set a Michigan high school record with 29 interceptions during his career.

He also set a school record for career rushing yards as a senior, with 2,360. Rivals.com rated King as a three-star prospect, and he committed to play college football at the University of Iowa.
King was selected a unanimous All-American and won the 2015 Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented to the top defensive back in college football, after a fantastic junior season in which he made 43 tackles and a Big-Ten high 8 interceptions.
King was named First-Team All-Big Ten for the second season in a row on November 29, 2016. He was also named an AP Second-Team All-American in 2016. He was picked in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.
