Morris, an American weightlifter, sees the wider picture as he embarks on his journey to Paris in 2024. Next week, Hampton Morris will start his quest to earn a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in his “home away from home” of Colombia. He won’t just be focused on breaking more records.

Morris has two goals in Bogotá: to compete well at the IWF World Championships, the first Paris qualifying competition, and to secure enough support to be elected to the new IWF Athletes’ Commission.

His ever-improving statistics make that initial aim more likely than unlikely. He has won global titles at the youth and junior levels in the 61 kilos division, setting numerous world records along the way.

At the 2023 Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Bariloche, Argentina, he won the gold medal in his category. In the Snatch and Clean & Jerk competitions, he also took home the gold medal.
