In Manizales, Colombia, for the 2021 Junior Pan-American Weightlifting Championships, Hampton Morris, 17, made a big impression on Saturday, July 10. Morris, who was competing in the 61-kilogram weight class, set a Junior Pan-American record and a Youth world record by clean-jerking 155 kilograms (341.7 pounds), more than two and a half times his bodyweight. Morris easily won the gold medal that day.

Morris’ first try at snatching 112 kilos (246.9 pounds) failed, but his second effort was successful. For his third effort, he called for 115 kilograms (253.5 pounds) on the barbell but failed. Prior to setting the new Youth world mark, he hit lifts of 145 kilograms (319.7 pounds) and 151 kilograms (332.9 pounds), making a perfect three out of three in the clean & jerk.
