Nick Hitchon, who was also known as William Nicholas Guy Hitchon, was a well-known person who was renowned for his quiet, modest demeanor and his voracious curiosity about life. He always remained a year younger than the Seven Up! episodes in which he featured, having been born on October 22, 1957. Nick was born into a farming family and is a native of a tiny farm in the Yorkshire Dales village of Arncliffe.

His keen interest in studying about the moon and the stars inspired him to pursue a degree in physics at Merton College in Oxford. Nick was only 19 years old when 21 Up was filmed, but he was already engrossed in his post-graduate studies there.

On July 23, 2023, Nick Hitchon passed away at the age of 65. He allegedly passed away from throat cancer. The nuclear scientist got a malignant tumor in his throat by the time he was 63 Up. He talked about dying in the movie.

The professor once remarked that he wouldn’t be alive to take part if there were an Up series episode 70. The nuclear scientist’s second wife, son, and two brothers are still alive.
